Abstract
At the present time there is continuous increasing of heavy metal that becomes one of the most serious world environmental problems, since they cause threat on land and aquatic life. Heavy metals contributed by increasing of industrial activities and natural sources. These are not degradable and persist in an environment. The aim of this study was to prepare three types of adsorbents. Powder of ajwa date seeds (PADS), powder of black seeds (PBS) and composite adsorbent (PADSPBS), which were applied in removing heavy metal ions such as cadmium, lead, copper, chromium, cobalt and manganese from aqueous solution. The study also examined the removal efficiency of these adsorbents. The constant mass of 0.1 gram of PADS was added in a volume of 50
mL of ultra-pure water reached maximum removal efficiency of 93.34%, 71.06%, 92.06%, 96.96%, 95.91% and 36.13% for Cd2+ ions, Cr3+ions, Co2+ ions, Cu2+ ions, Pb2+ ions and Mn2+ ions respectively. The PBS removal efficiency by using 0.1 gram in 50 mL of ultra-pure water were 78.10%, 57.33%, 28.69%, 92.35%, 8.60% and 95.40% for Cd2+ ions, Co2+ ions, Cr3+ ions, Cu2+ ions, Mn2+ ions and Pb2+ ions respectively. While the composite adsorbent PADSPBS used similar mass of adsorbent and volume reached maximum removal efficiency of 86.00%, 66.96%, 25.84%, 97.07%, 12.36% and 93.35% for Cd2+ ions, Co2+ ions, Cr3+ ions, Cu2+ ions, Mn2+ ions and Pb2+ ions respectively. The investigation results indicated that, the PADS and PADSPBS have corresponding order in metal ions removals efficiency of Cu2+ ions > Pb2+ ions > Cd2+ ions > Co2+ ions > Cr3+ ions > Mn2+ ions while the PBS removal efficiency followed
the order of Pb2+ ions > Cu2+ ions > Cd2+ ions > Co2+ ions > Cr3+ ions > Mn2+ ions. The results of the study can be taken as a best solution to industries, home, hospitals, farms and municipal searching for efficiency, simple, low cost and green alternative heavy metal treatments methods to overcome the problems of heavy metals discharged in aqueous solution
